Phase 1 (2016)

We recruited stakeholders to analyze the problem, created a beginning set of system elements, and began considering a framework for a Detroit community development system.

Phase 2 (2017-2018)

We formed an Advisory Council, conducted extensive research resulting in a specific set of challenges and created Task Forces to respond to those challenges and develop test-projects for most of the elements.

Phase 3 (2019-2020)

Stakeholders will champion elements of the system, working closely with CDOs and GROs, by “test-piloting” project ideas:

  • Coordination of Capacity Building Services
  • Community Development Career Navigation Model
  • Neighborhood Vitality Success Framework
  • Neighborhood Voice and Advocacy Framework
  • At least two city-CDO funded partnerships

Simultaneously we will:

  • Activate the System Capitalization element
  • Establish a governance/oversight structure
  • Develop a process to resolve CDO coverage for all neighborhoods

CEDAM is Hiring a Program Coordinator!

CEDAM is seeking a program coordinator to provide high-quality support to programs and internal office management. This position will work with statewide partners to ensure accurate record-keeping, timely communications and detailed internal controls. This position requires occasional statewide travel.

CEDAM is a nonprofit trade association serving the community economic development industry in Michigan. Our members are nonprofit affordable housing developers, Main Street organizations, community development organizations, community foundations, and municipalities, as well as other organizations working to ensure their communities are financially empowered, equitable, and vibrant. We host conferences and training events, manage programs, and offer funding and capacity building opportunities. CEDAM is also involved in advocacy at the state and federal level, working on consumer financial protections and community economic development issues.

Scope of Work

This position is integral to all aspects of CEDAM’s work. It involves working across programs and coordinating and driving projects with program leads. As such, the person in this position will have the opportunity to foster connections within many subsectors of the field. The activities listed below are required for the position, but the scope of work has potential to grow with the individual.

Support CEDAM’s programs, including AmeriCorps, Community Development Fellowship, and Show Me the Money Day

  • Work with program participants across the state to ensure accurate reporting and program tracking at a distance
  • Provide logistical support for and coordinate webinars and in-person meetings
  • Act as the point person for program paperwork collection including contracts, criminal history check paperwork, and new hire paperwork
  • Work with organizations across the state to collect, aggregate, and evaluate event data
  • Conduct statewide site visits (virtual during the pandemic)
  • Assist other program staff as necessary

Manage and improve organizational efficiency

  • Lead a digital file organization process, which will include the creation of a project timeline, proposing file structure and document storage policies, and coordinating with program staff on program-specific file organization goals
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the office including ordering and maintaining supplies, processing mail, and general office organization and upkeep (once we are back in the office)
  • Oversee electronic operations for staff such as maintaining our digital file system, scheduling meetings, and providing internal checks and balances
  • Act as the point person for CEDAM’s board of directors by preparing board agenda and packets, scheduling meetings, and recording meeting minutes
  • Coordinate and drive internal activities such as staff meetings and strategic planning meetings
  • Work with associate director/chief operating officer to ensure accurate organization financial tracking including accurate billing and check preparation, assisting in the annual audit, and maintaining financial files

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and well-organized. Prior outstanding experience in a support role is desired. The right candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • A history of independent decision making
  • Problem solving skills
  • Precision in past work and attention to detail
  • The ability to gather and evaluate program participation data
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced understanding of digital platforms like Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

Location and Travel

All CEDAM staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

CEDAM’s office is based in REO Town Lansing. When the office reopens, the program coordinator will be expected to be in the office regularly but need not be based there full time. The position requires occasional statewide travel.

Compensation

This position is a salaried full-time position with a generous PTO and benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance for the employee, spouse, and all dependents and a strong retirement match after one year of employment. The base salary range is $36,000 to $42,000 depending on experience. CEDAM employees are eligible for performance bonuses depending on availability of funds.
