Progress Dashboard

Where have we been?

Where have we been?

Where are we now?

Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3

Phase 1 (2016)

We recruited stakeholders to analyze the problem, created a beginning set of system elements, and began considering a framework for a Detroit community development system.

Phase 2 (2017-2018)

We formed an Advisory Council, conducted extensive research resulting in a specific set of challenges and created Task Forces to respond to those challenges and develop test-projects for most of the elements.

Phase 3 (2019-2020)

Stakeholders will champion elements of the system, working closely with CDOs and GROs, by “test-piloting” project ideas:

  • Coordination of Capacity Building Services
  • Community Development Career Navigation Model
  • Neighborhood Vitality Success Framework
  • Neighborhood Voice and Advocacy Framework
  • At least two city-CDO funded partnerships

Simultaneously we will:

  • Activate the System Capitalization element
  • Establish a governance/oversight structure
  • Develop a process to resolve CDO coverage for all neighborhoods

Friday, April 26 @ 9:00 am4:30 pm

The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) will host Rebuilding the Block: A Small‐Scale Housing Developer Symposium April 26th, in coordination with City of Detroit agencies including the Department of Neighborhoods and the Housing and Revitalization Department. They need your help to make this important event a success. They are looking for 50 developers to participate in conversations regarding small‐scale housing development in Detroit.

Their objectives are to better understand strategies for rehabilitation as well as the biggest obstacles currently impeding progress. The symposium will bring experienced developers and residents together for in‐depth conversations about rebuilding Detroit’s neighborhoods. Presentations and panels will focus on the following topics related to small‐scale housing development:

  • Property Acquisition
  • Funding/Finance
  • Permitting/Procurement
  • Rehabilitation

They’re asking for your help to identify potential participants. They’re looking for individuals with:

  • Housing rehab experience (Detroit‐based rehabilitation strongly preferred)
  • Intent to rehab at least three units in the next 12 months (single‐family or duplex units strongly preferred)
  • Interest in purchasing properties through DLBA or City processes

Detroit‐based residents or businesses are strongly preferred.

Pre‐registration link:  Pre‐registrations are due by April 8th, 2019 at 5 pm. Participants will receive confirmation by April 12th. The symposium is scheduled 9–4:30 on April, 26th 2019.
