Updates and Opportunities from MEDC
November 14, 2020
Place-based partners, please see updates and opportunities below:
- Bench Consulting in partnership with Detroit-based Patronicity published ‘Winter Places: A Design Guide for Winter Placemaking.’ The document includes dozens of ideas for community development organizations looking to expand into the outdoors due to COVID. These types of projects would be competitive for funding through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places program.
- MEDC’s Michigan Main Street team has developed a COVID-19 Response Winter Strategies for Downtowns & Business Districts guide. The document walks through principles of winter city planning, and how community development organizations can create partnerships, adapt communities for COVID friendly outdoor winter activities, help businesses increase sales, and market the district. The MMS team also offers a pre-recorded webinar that covers many of ideas outlined in the document.
- The Neighborhood Business Initiative, a network of business support organizations that includes the DEGC, TechTown Detroit, SBA, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, and many others, is hosting a free webinar, Get Your Small Business Holiday-Ready: Tips & Resources for Success. The event is Tuesday, November 10th from 10–11:30am and will include expert advice and resources on how to market your business and create an engaging, COVID-safe holiday shopping experience for customers. Please share this opportunity with your small business networks.
