Progress Dashboard

Where have we been?

Where have we been?

Where are we now?

Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3

Phase 1 (2016)

We recruited stakeholders to analyze the problem, created a beginning set of system elements, and began considering a framework for a Detroit community development system.

Phase 2 (2017-2018)

We formed an Advisory Council, conducted extensive research resulting in a specific set of challenges and created Task Forces to respond to those challenges and develop test-projects for most of the elements.

Phase 3 (2019-2020)

Stakeholders will champion elements of the system, working closely with CDOs and GROs, by “test-piloting” project ideas:

  • Coordination of Capacity Building Services
  • Community Development Career Navigation Model
  • Neighborhood Vitality Success Framework
  • Neighborhood Voice and Advocacy Framework
  • At least two city-CDO funded partnerships

Simultaneously we will:

  • Activate the System Capitalization element
  • Establish a governance/oversight structure
  • Develop a process to resolve CDO coverage for all neighborhoods

Eastern Market’s Local Historic Designation Community Engagement Meeting Two

October 22, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Local Historic Designation Community Engagement Meeting Two

The Historic Designation Advisory Board (HDAB) has been directed by the Detroit City Council to undertake a study of Eastern Market to determine its eligibility for local historic designation. Public engagement is part of the process of local designation. At the Community Engagement Meeting held on September 17, 2019, it was decided that a second meeting was necessary. The Detroit Historic Designation Advisory Board staff will hold a second community-wide meeting on: Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 4PM.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide additional information on local historic designation, its benefits and regulations, and address questions and concerns. The program will include a presentation on design review by staff of the Historic District Commission and guests from locally designated historic commercial districts.

The area under study is roughly bounded by Mack Avenue on the north; St. Aubin on the east; both sides of Gratiot on the south; and Rivard on the west. Not all of the study area will be included in the proposed designation, a large part is already listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
