Community Development Program Coordinator
Position Summary:
Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) is seeking one or more experienced candidates to join our team as a Community Development Program Coordinator(s). This position works across CDAD’s departments and supports our Directors to implement a robust body of work designed to build neighborhood power, build capacity in our member organizations, support youth to influence decision-making in the city, increase the community engagement acumen of the community development sector, and create ways for our members to network with each other and influence policy.
CDAD Description
Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) has served as the leading voice for Detroit’s community development sector for more than 20 years. As a membership centered organization with close to 200 dues-paying members, CDAD advocates for public policies and resources that advance the work of nonprofit, community-based organizations and resident-led groups in Detroit neighborhoods who are engaged in physical development, land use planning, community organizing, and other activities designed to stabilize and revitalize the quality of life in Detroit. Example of Core Responsibilities:
Community Development Program Coordinators work on a variety of projects across CDAD’s departments. The following is a description of the types of work that this position will support and/or lead and is not a job description. Work will be done in partnership with a CDAD Director to develop implementation strategies and setting program goals, and milestones.
Supporting CDAD’s capacity building and leadership development work
· Support CDAD’s community development capacity building system, which is a partnership with MCR, Co.Act Detroit, MNA, and Enterprise designed to provide high quality, user-led and identified capacity building supports
· Support capacity building system users to complete a self-assessment tool and support them to navigate through their capacity building/technical assistance plan
· Strengthen the existing service provider pool by examining gaps in the existing pool and building the necessary relationships to add to the pool
· Design and facilitate a variety of meetings and experiences including individual check-ins, small/large group meetings, cohort-based meetings, etc., including managing a cohort of grantees
· Support CDAD’s Capacity Building Committee
Supporting CDAD’s youth engagement work
· Support CDAD’s Youth Advisory Council and committees
· Lead the recruitment and application process for committee members
· Support the committee and Director to plan trainings, events, projects, and workshops
· Connect youth engagement partners and youth council to opportunities to influence decision-making and policy in Detroit (e.g. neighborhood planning, spending priorities, etc.)
Supporting CDAD’s Neighborhood Voice and Advocacy Framework
· Develop “neighborhood action tables” in two Detroit neighborhoods and provide them with high-touch support
· Develop an application process and lead logistics around the application process
· Support CDAD partners to develop their neighborhood action tables
· Research small, neighborhood impact funds and capture promising practices
· Research promising practices around neighborhood-based resiliency strategies, community-based safety initiatives, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and community-nonprofit partnerships
Supporting CDAD’s Member and Community Engagement Work
· Develop a community engagement workshop/class for CDAD members and partners
· Create and lead a community engagement learning community of practitioners across the ecosystem
· Support CDAD’s Member Services Committee
· Help with planning member events including membership meetings, lunch and learns, district-based meetings, and our annual community development week
· Engage CDAD members and partners regularly to ensure CDAD is responsive to the needs of our members and the emerging needs of the community development sector in Detroit
· Work on a number of community engagement contracts
Preferred Qualities/Experience/Skills/Knowledge
· At least 3 years’ experience with work similar to that outlined in job posting
· Excellent project-management skills including attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to manage projects with many moving parts, and meeting deadlines
· Extremely strong results-based facilitation skills
· Comfortable with technologies including Office, Canva, Wild Apricot, social media platforms
· Ability to advance work in a team setting
· Strong relationship building skills with the ability to build relationships with CDAD staff, members, and partners
· Knowledge of Detroit’s community development sector preferred
· Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice required
· Ability to work evenings and/or weekend when required
· Advanced facilitation skills developed through real-world experience in designing meeting processes, and facilitating small and large group meetings
